[Table stone with another slab beneath] Here lies the body of Harriot DAVIES wife of The Hon. Captain Adam GORDON, Collector of the Customs, Portpatrick who died on the 23 February 1801 aged 35 years Beneath this stone but fairer yet to rise Heaven’s fairest work, a lovely woman lies An infant also yields his early breath The mother hastes and clasps her babe in death The joy of youth, the beauteous bloom resign’d Were but the outward weeds she cast behind Wife, Mother, Friend, her every care supplied Nor caus’d the world a tear, but when she died.
